چکیده

Hydrogen gas (H2) is an energy carrier that does not generate carbon dioxide emissions during combustion, but several processes in use for its production demand high inputs associated with fossil fuels and greenhouse emissions. Biological processes, such as dark fermentation (DF), have the potential to remove dependency on H2 production. DF a process encourages fermentative bacteria ferment organic substrates produce truly clean carrier, success depends removing presence of competing H2−consuming microorganisms inoculum consortia. This paper addresses strategy enhance from different types by testing pre-treatment inactivate bacteria, including acid-shock (pH 3), basic-shock 10) heat-shock (115 °C) methods. Digestate anaerobic digesters processing sewage sludge was used pre-treated inocula, which were subsequently tested batch bio-H2 (BHP) test using glucose substrate. The results show best method, reporting yield 191.8 mL-H2/gVS added (the untreated reported 170.91 added). Glucose conversion data concentration butyric acid both treated inocula BHP tests, indicate butyrate pathway dominant; shifting this formate route could further net A standardised inoculum-conditioning method can help consistently assess biohydrogen suitable feedstock maximise yields.

Bio-Hydrogen Production from Cheese Whey by Dark Fermentation

This paper focuses on the production of bio-hydrogen by dark fermentation of de-proteinized (by membrane ultra-filtration) cheese whey, an abundant waste stream of the food industry. This waste stream contains mainly lactose, which was also used as reference substrate in bio-hydrogen production tests. Those tests were conducted in batch by using a thermally treated anaerobic sludge as inoculum ...

Dark Hydrogen Fermentation From Paper Mill Effluent (PME): The influence of Substrate Concentration and Hydrolysis

Paper mill effluent (PME) was used as an organic feedstock for production of biohydrogen via dark fermentation using heat-shock pretreated anaerobic sludge under mesophilic conditions. The influence of substrate concentration (5, 10 and 15 g-COD/L) and the initial pH (5 and 7) on the efficiency of dark hydrogen fermentation from PME were investigated. The highest hydrogen yield of 55.4 mL/g-COD...

Effect of substrate concentration on dark fermentation hydrogen production using an anaerobic fluidized bed reactor.

The effect of substrate (glucose) concentration on the stability and yield of a continuous fermentative process that produces hydrogen was studied. Four anaerobic fluidized bed reactors (AFBRs) were operated with a hydraulic retention time (HRT) from 1 to 8 h and an influent glucose concentration from 2 to 25 g L(-1). The reactors were inoculated with thermally pre-treated anaerobic sludge and ...
